The answer is twofold: ideological and geographical.

👉 From a religious point of view, everything was connected to the Egyptian gods. In the north, in Heliopolis, the dominant god was Ra, represented by the visible sun and by the pyramids, which symbolized the sun’s rays. In Thebes (Luxor), however, the main god was Amon, the “invisible” one. Thus, if the pharaohs were his representatives on Earth, their tombs also had to be invisible — hidden in the mountains and protected from looters.
